lakewood library II

here's a glance at the rest of the newly renovated lakewood public library. I really commend the designers on their choice of colors and comfort of the furnishings.

nowadays libraries are so much more than just a place to check out books!

the public computer room has 60 new computers - all with internet access!! plus additional computers in the adjacent classroom. the librarian in the computer department did mention that the computer in the children's department (see last post) are not hooked up to the internet (wise move).

the audiovisual department is shaping up to be enormous!

good job lakewood!

Dennis knows someone who once sat inside that library (near the windows on right maybe) and read for awhile. But this person was just passin' thru so did not exit with a bag o books.

How did they expand this? they must have bought the buildings around it --was there ever a Bob's Big Boy restaurant near it? maybe across the road?

there was a bank next door and it closed to move to a new location. the library was able to buy the land, knocked the old building down and put up a new building. the new building went up first, then they worked of gutting the old library, totally rehabbing it and connected both building seamlessly.

unfortunately I flaked out on sunday and missed the grand opening ceremony!

no bob's big boy in my time in the hood....but maybe in the past. there's a taco bell across the street from the library and a 'strip of retail shops' including drug mart - ms t and my favorite place for cheap necessities....and we like the tattooed lady who always waits on us.
